Boundaries

The Badger Mill Creek Environmental Corridor (BMCEC) site we propose to steward (outlined in red in the map below) comprises Verona and Dane County Parks properties including the Eastview Heights Nature Sanctuary, the Ice Age Trail Junction Natural Resource Area and the Military Ridge Reserve. Other important environmental features include Badfer Mill Creek, a class II trout stream and the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. As urban sprawl continues, the site is an increasingly important environmental connection between natural areas to the north (Badger Prairie Park), to the east (Goose Lake), to the west (Sugar River Wetlands State Natural Area) and to the south (lower Sugar River and Falk Wells Sugar River Wildlife Area). Consistent with property names and site features, we adopted the name “Friends of Badger Mill Creek Environmental Corridor” which includes a term that signifies the primary function and value of the site and best represents our stewardship priorities.
